Aren't you funny !

If you knew anything about fitting flooring that you didn't read in a book you would know that some 'fine tuning' is sometimes required.

Where you been anyway ?

Made me laugh ;)

And when have I proffessed to knowing anything about fitting flooring? Thats why I have to enslave fitters to do my evil bidding.

And isn't a template meant to be precise?

I've been (am) very, very busy working 6 days a week, trying to run two showrooms 50 miles apart.

Lifes not much fun at the moment, mate. :(

Its good to be busy Nick but I know what you mean about being no fun ! Im supposed to be on holiday from...well now really but its going to be another couple of days before I get finished up (upholstery stuff) and then I will have to deliver it next week. The joys of being self employed I guess !

Yep still got the same lad, progress is steady as he is basically learning two trades at once which can be alot to take in. No regrets although as I suspected there is an awful lot of time and effort which goes in to teaching someone - not easy when you are also trying to earn a living at the same time.

Now then! how does one template! do you just cut the paper in with a knife? Or cut it in rough then 'scribe' with a pencil and fag packet or piece of bar (cover strip is best) then having put yer template on yer vinyl/lino/marmolium, kind of reverse scribe with said pencil onto vinyl etc etc and cut out.

Just curious as I do the latter (when I have to) and it takes me ages!

Cut the paper a half inch short, and scribe using the rule from my square and a pencil, scribe back onto the vinyl and cut just inside the pencil line. Thats my method, of course sometimes it requires some fine tuning, unlike Nick I'm not perfect ! :)

The masters... ;) use a piece of studded rubber marker and pencil, cut the rubber exact same width a straight edge, the rubber can be bent up for small tight areas or up the wall for mitres.
Put the straight edge on the marks on the paper and cut the straights out, wooooooooooooooosh, like lightning, only need to mark back door frames and awkward bits.
Until you have seen a awkward rubber backed coconut door mat or a aluminium framed one fit with a upside down template you have seen nothing !
Thats a skill

I charge the customer for a cheap piece of vinyl, fit the vinyl and use to template, customer always says "can i keep the vinyl?",course you can you might need it to replace your new floor in the future,so a good money saver.I am so customer orientated.

On A funny note, we were fitting Naires lino in kitchens and bathrooms on barracks in york, in grey 3.2,mm of course, we would template them, then rip up and screed the weeks work, around 10 houses, then cut them out and go back and stick them all in next days.
The van was rammed to the roof with templates
Anyway it was in the days when we were free and could smoke in the van, a nissan urvan , the old flat front ones where your face was the crumple zone.
We were a two hours early and the lino was not in so we did not want to tidy the warehouse, the old guy was from Leeds so we pulled in a back car park of Roundahay park for a walk round the lake .
A few hours later we are just about round the lake in park when we see in the car park, the boss with a guy and low loader and a burnt out nissan urvan van getting dragged on the back, just like the one we had but in charcole
I dont think that tab end made it out of the Window on the A64 the old guy says as we get closer, the boss shout over..
2 things,lads p45 and holiday pay.....
My office 8 o-clock..
I never went in...
Still owes me a Weeks pay
